On 21 June, Pontevedra hosted the 2025 Duathlon World Championship, a key event within the Multisport World Championship. At 226ERS, we are extremely proud of the event organised by the FETRI, a federation that we sponsor. María Varo was crowned the elite category’s world runner-up after an impressive and thrilling performance until the very end.
The race was held under the classic sprint duathlon format: 5 km run – 30 km bike – 5 km final run.
From the outset, María demonstrated a combative and strategic approach. She led the first running segment with a solid pace, clocking a time of 16:45 and taking the lead from the outset. During the cycling segment, she was part of the group of seven leaders who remained in contention for the podium throughout the fast and technical section, leaving no room for error.
The final section was a spectacular duel. Maria and Italian athlete Giorgia Priarone exchanged positions during the final five kilometres of the race at a frenetic pace that kept the tension high until the end. Ultimately, Priarone won by just five seconds, but Maria crossed the finish line in 1:24:45, securing the silver medal with unwavering dedication.
