GLUTAMINE is a non-essential amino acid with a high presence found in the body. In fact, it is the most abundant amino acid in muscles reaching 60% and 20% of the total group of amino acids found in the human body. Its most important functions include:
- Helping to replenish muscle glycogen after high-intensity exercise.
- Improving the body’s resistance and helping the body’s defence system.
- Maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal tract and immune functions under stressful conditions.
BCAA are three essential amino acids, namely Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. The ratio is 8:1:1 with an extra shot of Leucine, as it is the one that initiates the processes of protein synthesis. They are also known as branched-chain amino acids and their main functions are:
- To increase protein synthesis and reduce the breakdown of proteins after exercise thereby aiding muscle recovery and reducing muscle degradation after exercise
- BCAA have an anabolic effect on protein metabolism after exercise and support muscle growth
- To reduce muscle damage related to endurance exercise and decrease "late onset muscle pain" and muscle fatigue after exercise
- To help maintain a healthy immune system.
- BCAA improve performance during sustained exercise and reduce the perceived effort during exercise.
L-TYROSINE:
- Essential for the natural formation of dopamine, necessary for normal muscle function and contraction.
- Involved in the production of energy.
- Tyrosine is necessary to maintain physical and mental activity.
L-ARGININE is a non-essential amino acid because the body also produces it:
- It is the precursor of nitric oxide, which our body uses as a vasodilator to circulate more blood through our blood vessels thereby helping to maintain optimal performance.
