María Varo, runner -up of the world of duathlon in Pontevedra: talent, strategy and passion 226ers
On June 21, Pontevedra was the scene of the 2025 Duathlon World Champion María Varo was proclaimed runner -up of the world in the elite category After a brilliant and exciting performance until the last meter.
The test was played under the classic Sprint Duathlon format:
5 km on foot - 30 km by bicycle - 5 km final race on foot.
From the beginning, Maria showed a combative and strategic attitude. He led the first segment on foot with a very solid pace, registering a time of 16:45, which allowed him to place himself in the lead from the first measures. In the cycling segment, he was part of the group of seven leaders who remained firm in the fight for the podium, without giving margin to error in a quick and technical section.
The last section was a spectacular duel. María and the Italian Giorgia Priarone exchanged positions during the last five kilometers of race, with a frantic rhythm that kept the tension until the final stretch. Finally, Priarone won for only five seconds, but Maria crossed the goal in 1:24:45, signing the World Silver With absolute delivery.
