We interviewed Marta Esteban Poveda after her first half marathon World Cup, where she competed in Cardiff on March 26. A first world -learning world -learning experience.
How was the average, Marta?
I am not happy with my performance. It arrived with a good level of form but the nerves, the different food or a set of factors made that from the heating had stomach discomfort. These were increasing as the kilometers passed and I had a bad time. He also made a lot of air, rain and cold and as I was cut from the group very soon (on the km8), I had to deal with practically the entire race against the wind and the slopes alone. The final result is that the brand was more than 3 minutes. That said, I was not happy.
What do you stay with?
With that I am a World Cup, that I have fought a lot to be there and that I am not a machine. There are times that the day does not come out. But I accumulated incredible experiences that surrounded the half marathon, meeting people from all countries, living in a dreamy environment and learning a lot from other athletes. I know I can be there again and improve.
What would you change, if you could change something?
It would actually change the pain, of course. I don't know what happened or why I was with so much pain. I usually have stomach problems normally but it is bad luck to touch me that day. Regarding the weather and slopes ... well, it is obvious that we all prefer the ideal conditions to compete.
Wind, rain, cold ... It certainly influenced!
Yes, as I said, in addition to my stomach pain, the time that day was dogs. If you stayed out of a group, and it happened to me very soon, it was a real odyssey to deal with all the elements. I went cold and muscularly in the slopes, especially at the end of the race, I suffered a lot. I ended with a sprint that at least helped me to advance a position in the general, but that already had the muscular failure. Shivering a long time after ending in the tent, even having put a lot of dry clothes.
After a few days everything looks different, right?
Well, little by little, the bad taste of a bad performance in a World Cup is left in precisely worldwide. I have been international and I have given everything, what I had at that time. And I know that I can be again and that everything you learn in these experiences enhances you as a athlete. This is what is really the life of an elite athlete, getting up from the falls with such impulse that it is difficult to fall again.
Next objective?
Here you get a bit ruminating the calendar. I want to do something interesting later, maybe end of April or May (rather), but I have not yet decided.
