Andreu Simón

Andreu Simon Aymerich, was born in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (August 28, 1991). It is a UTMB and Trail corridor, which has won four national titles (for the moment). The last one was in 2023, in Transgrancanaria.

It is one of the great promises of trail running in Spain.

When the fondness for the trail to Andreu Simón arrived

Andreu Simón He played football until he was 17, but In 2009 he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

He had to replace, modify his dream of being a firefighter and adapt to the new situation. Took refuge in mountain races and led him to know a new sports world, which led him to study INEF.

He began by making short exits, constantly controlling the glucometer, and He began to better understand his body, know his new limits. And when he began to control it better, he advanced with longer outlets.

He began competing in shorter tests and then expanding. At that time, he discovered that Skyrunning competitions were doing well.

It was in 2018 when he made the leap to long distance tests, winning on June 30 of that year the buff Epic trail, with very high temperatures.

In February 2023, he took for the first time the departure of the classic Transgrancanaria test, who had already won in the Marathon mode in 2020 and 2021. He had a good start, staying in the head group in the first part of the race, then in the middle of the test he had to go back to go back and finally he could keep up, winning at 13:39:33.

Diabetes and sport

Andreu Simón has written a book "The sugar marathon", in which he tells how he has learned to meet to the fullest, to avoid hypos and hyper glycemia, but that is a constant learning, since he says: "Diabetes is a disease in which two plus two are not four, it is a disease in which there are variables that are uncontrollable and, therefore, I try to be as calm as possible in all of them."

But most importantly, and the message he transmits both in his book and in his publications: «With diabetes You can do everything you consider, simply with control. I have not had to stop doing anything, it is more, everything I have proposed I have been able to do.
