This formulation, based on “multi-transportable carbohydrates,” has been shown through various studies* to facilitate absorption in the intestine via different transporters. This characteristic represents an effective mechanism to increase the rate of assimilation and oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates above 60g per hour*.
Research confirms that it is highly recommended to combine carbohydrate sources such as maltodextrin and fructose.
MALTODEXTRIN:
Unlike glucose, it needs to be broken down, which results in a more gradual and sustained energy source.
It has a high glycemic index, achieving a rapid increase in blood glucose without necessarily providing an excessively sweet taste that can become overwhelming in these types of products.
As a carbohydrate chain, it has a high molecular weight, leading to a solution with lower osmolarity, which aids digestion and reduces possible gastrointestinal side effects.
FRUCTOSE:
Fructose is a monosaccharide, the simplest form in which carbohydrates can be found. Using a 1:0.8 ratio, based on recent studies, maximizes exogenous carbohydrate oxidation compared to other ratios.
The use of fructose in this specific proportion is especially recommended for athletes who exceed carbohydrate intakes of 60g/h.
Thanks to this, the combination of both maltodextrin and fructose allows for the digestion and assimilation of a high amount of carbohydrates per hour while minimizing the risk of gastric problems.
