IRONMAN LANZAROTE has been running for more than 30 editions and is considered one of the toughest on the planet. It is considered one of the toughest events on the international sporting calendar and, as a result, has one of the highest drop-out rates for athletes in the world.
It offers qualifying places for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
What will you find if you participate in IRONMAN LANZAROTE?
- SWIMMING - 1st RACE: Starts on the beach at 7am and takes place in the Atlantic Ocean. The fastest participants in Ironman Lanzarote usually complete this race in about 45 minutes, although the usual time to finish is between 75 and 90 minutes.
- SWIMMING - 2nd RACE: This race is popularly known as "the killer", as it covers the entire island. Starting and finishing in Puerto del Carmen towards Tías and El Golfo, it continues with a hellish ascent of 2,551 metres in elevation gain accompanied by strong north winds. When the triathletes reach the top of the island, they start the last stage back to Puerto del Carmen. This race usually lasts between 5:30 and 8 hours.
- WALK RUN - 3rd RACE: This race consists of three laps along the Paseo Maritimo and the Avenida de las Playas. Here the course is flat, but the main problem for the athletes is the high temperatures, as after having finished the previous races, running in the heat alone can be quite tough.
